Youth on Board
“Youth on Board” is a program aimed at connecting our youth leaders with established leaders in our community. Young leaders, aged 18 to 23 years, are matched with mentors who sit on local Boards of Directors. This program provides the opportunity for young leaders to learn about board governance and, with the assistance of their mentors, participate in the governance of a local social profit agency.
Two components:
Workshops:
Late October 2010 - Exact date to be determined: Mandatory workshop on Board Governance for all youth participants.
Early November 2010 - Exact date to be determined:: Meeting at which Youth Leaders will be matched with their Mentors, and both parties will work together to develop an agreement outlining their roles.
Board Meetings: Young leaders will be required to participate in a minimum of six (6) monthly board meetings with their mentors.
Qualifications:
We're looking for the following:
- Youth between the ages of 18-23 who have demonstrated leadership;
- Established leaders who currently sit on a board of directors for social profit organizations;
- Social profit organizations interested in forging links with youth leaders.

Objectives

- Increase their knowledge of board governance practices through hands-on experiences
- Expand their networks by building bridges with established leaders
- Encourage a youth perspective at the board level
- Encourage established community leaders to mentor youth leaders
