Leadership Waterloo Region Class of 2011

For two or three years before I applied to the Leadership Waterloo Region Core Program, I would notice the email going out asking staff for applications. The email talked about a leadership program that would train future leaders for involvement in our community. I had always enjoyed participation in extracurricular activities at work but what was this leadership
program all about? I finally took a leap and applied for the program.

I remember sitting in class during the opening retreat in 2010. I remember the
overwhelming feeling of empowerment when looking around the room thinking; all of us are here together finding ways to help each other and our community, wow! It felt like we could do anything.

On completion of the course, I had a much better understanding of my community, of my own values and I was much better equipped to apply my leadership skills. I am extremely fortunate to have had the opportunity to participate in the Leadership Waterloo Region Core Program and be part of our growing Alumni Network. Completion of the course has provided me a community of opportunities that have impacted my community, my workplace and my family.
