Leadership Waterloo Region Class of 2007

Like so many in our community, I first came to Waterloo to attend university. My extensive involvement in the University of Waterloo community gave me diverse experience with advocacy, journalism, and politics. But it was the Leadership Waterloo Region program that allowed me to really understand my new home. The program took me to all corners of this Region, exposing me to those working to address poverty, connecting me with our diverse communities, and helping me to understand the leadership choices made by our non-profit sector and municipal politicians.

Most importantly, my 2007 class was full of fascinating people that I probably would not have met otherwise. Thanks to the program, I learned more about myself and gained the confidence to take on community leadership roles, first on the local board of the Canadian Mental Health Association, and then on Waterloo City Council.
