I had the incredible opportunity to participate in Leadership Waterloo Region's Core Program during 2013-2014, and learn more about the needs of our community and how each of us can contribute to building a healthy and vibrant Waterloo Region.
Leadership Waterloo Region aims to connect passionate individuals and community leaders with their core values and skills and the many local community organizations. By learning about the different sectors of the community such as arts and culture, the government and not-for-profits, and how each of us can each contribute is vital to building a stronger, more compassionate community.
One of the most poignant Leadership Days is at the beginning of the year and provides the class with an overview of poverty in Waterloo Region. This valuable day includes a visit to the self-help food bank and two shelters, and truly opened our eyes to the many issues related to homelessness and poverty in our community and how each of us can contribute and raise awareness.
